Natural Law Of Shakespeare s King Lear - 1664 Words
Amber Li Dr. Andreacchi ENG4U1 January 6, 2015 Natural Law in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s King Lear King Lear is one of the most famous tragedies, which was written by Shakespeare between 1603 and 1606. During that period, the social unrest swept across the whole England, and the rise of capitalism led to moral turpitude. With the high-speed economic development, many old ethics and moralities had been gradually forgotten and destroyed. Therefore, King Lear can be seen as a true portrayal of the social phenomena of this time. The play explores the Natural law, which can be easily found in terms of power relationships between human beingsââ¬â parents over children, husbands over wives, and king over subjects. The notion of natural social order in King Lear is not only simply as one of the most essential themes, but also the foundation of the entire play. First and foremost, at the core of this play lies the filiation between parents and children. Shakespeare shows the significance of this relationship through Edmund, Goneril and Regan, who do not respect their parents. At the beginning of the play, Edmund has no any entitlement under the unjust British Hierarchy and the social customs at that time because he is a bastard. When he said, ââ¬Å"Shall top the legitimate; I grow; I prosper/Now, gods, stand up for bastards!â⬠(1. 2. 21-22) These words define his the respect and rank of low birth. Basketball Skills Essay Free Essays
Andrew Lorentz Prof Berkhof PE 141 Basketball Skills 10/14/09 Basketball Skills Reflective Assessment Essay Basketball Skills was a great physical education class because I got to improve my overall basketball skills and learn some exact specifics about the sport I love to play the most. Iââ¬â¢ve been playing basketball since I was very young and will continue to throughout my life. I have quite a few strengths while playing basketball. We will write a custom essay sample on Basketball Skills Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now One is that I am a skilled ball handler. Anyone who knows anything about basketball will tell you that in order for your team to win, you need to have that one guy or girl that can handle the ball, also called the point guard. Iââ¬â¢ve played point guard ever since elementary school traveling to those all day basketball tournaments on Saturdays. I fit the role of the point guard because I am small and quick with excellent hand-eye coordination. I value my skill as a ball handler because my teammates rely on me to bring the ball up the court with ease without the defender stealing the ball from our team before advancing it past half court. I was valuable when our team had to break a full court press put on by the opponent because I am quick and can get open easier than all of my teammates could. Another strength of mine is that I am a fundamentally sound passer. Being able to pass the ball well in basketball relates to playing the point guard position in some ways because most point guards can dribble and pass well. I love making that assist to my teammate that forces the opponents to freeze on the court because my pass was that perfect. In high school, playing point guard my teammates and coaches would expect me to make that one pass, or the exceptionally good passes during games and practices because they knew I was capable of it and performing to my highest skill level was vital for our success as a team. Another strength I have is I am fast and quick. These skills attribute well for playing defense particularly. I was one of the best defensive players on our high school team because my coach always wanted me to guard the opponentsââ¬â¢ quickest player. He knew I could ââ¬Å"mirrorâ⬠him and not let him score or hardly touch the ball. With strengths come weaknesses and I have a number of weaknesses while playing basketball. One is that I need to be more aggressive overall. My teammates and coaches knew I could shoot and always encouraged me to shoot or drive to the hole more. I know I could have started more games in high school if I was just more aggressive. Another weakness is my lack of being a vocal leader. For playing the point guard position you could assume that I was the captain and leader of our team but that was not the case. Since I am a more introverted person in general, I carry that with me on the basketball court. I am vocal on defense but more of a ââ¬Å"followerâ⬠versus a hardcore leader. Basketball relates to Frequency because you could add more time in your day to play basketball. Whether that be practicing your fundamental skills more or playing more in pick-up games. Intensity is all about you as the player in basketball. Your attitude and energy that you have will show boldly on the court when youââ¬â¢re playing. When coaches or teammates tell you to pick up your intensity, that means focus and start getting more aggressive like driving to the hole more. Or being more active on defense: shuffle your feet and stop being lazy with your hands. Also being more vocal to get your teammates hyped up. Time relates to how much basketball you play at a time. Sometimes you might spend more time playing and others day you could be just too tired or not in the mood to work on your game. Playing basketball many days of the week could vary as far as how much time you specifically spend. You might not want your routine to be the same all the time. Type is simply doing different activities while playing basketball. In order to be a great ball player you need to be sharp in more aspects than just being able to shoot well. For instance, you could run sprints the length of the court or practice shooting from various spots around the arch. Shooting free throws becomes muscle memory with practice. Type refers to practicing different types of skills in basketball. I will continue to keep basketball in my life even though I no longer play competitively like in high school. Itââ¬â¢s hard to stop playing a sport youââ¬â¢ve been playing all your life that you love to play and watch. Every winter, my high school puts on an alumni basketball tournament on one weekend. Itââ¬â¢s a lot of fun to play with my high school friends again and play against some of the old alums of the high school that I donââ¬â¢t know of. Basketball to me is more than just the game itself. You can learn a lot of life lessons playing basketball, such as how to work as a team. I also love playing outside in my driveway at home. Itââ¬â¢s a great way to practice my shooting skills. Iââ¬â¢m glad I took this class this semester because it was a fun class with a great coach/teacher. How to cite Basketball Skills Essay, Essays

It is also relatively important to examine the internal as well as the external environment of Barken through the SWOT analysis in order to plan for success (Brooks, Heffner Henderson, 2014). SWOT analysis Strengths Brand name and outstanding quality products Innovativeness in Coffee preparation High social commitment Customer loyalty Customer orientation from management team Weakness Poor marketing and communication with new potential customers. The shop is more focused and oriented towards maintaining already built relationships. The shop has an unclear vision. It had grown quickly by talking a broad differentiation strategy leading the management team to ignore core business markets. Lack of a marketing team hence lack of focus on marketing specific services or product to targeted customers. If this happens however, it is more generalized. Opportunities Competitive advantage over other coffee houses in the industry. Since Barken emphasizes in luxury coffee provision segment, its primary clients include people from the elite levels of the society, In return quality comes first. The opportunity for expansion into developing market areas in other areas. Threats. Competition from the new entrance in the industry. Though substitution is a relatively small risk, the chances of it getting more intense with time are high. Currently, Barken is still relevant as the best providers of quality services. Potential competitors also pose a significant challenge; it is also quite unfortunate that the shop lack sufficient knowledge to face of the challengers (Dictionary, 2016). New markets come with new challenges; this is because the enterprise requires familiarity with extended marketing tips and the area of weaknesses that regional coffee houses may have. Strategic Plan for the next 5years Crucial components The management team Products and services Customers Our competitive edge Marketing strategy Financial Forecast Slightly more thsn half of Americans above the ages of 18 drink coffee on a daily basis (Igou Coe, 2016). The average American, in this case, spends over 20$ in a week on coffee expenditure. Although the industry is controlled by giant shops such as Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks, small upcoming coffee shops like Barken have found solid techniques of acquiring the market share to net over 12 billion yearly (Hill, Jones Schilling, 2014). Subsequently, this is thanks to the fact that there is a relatively high-profit margin on coffee (Phadermrod, Crowder Wills, 2016). Simply put, a coffee shop is a highly profitable end over if all the right channels are enacted. In relation, this phrase will examine Barkens strategic plan for the next five years. Executive Summary Barken will offer organic as well as gourmet coffee to our clients. We consider ourselves more than an average run-of-the mill stop coffee joint since we offer varieties of coffee beverages. Our plan for an entertainment galore in the shop will provide a hub of opportunities for Michigans young artists. The management team Although the coffee shop as per now has a small management as well as the support team, we intend to grow in the next one regarding both the management and the staff. Currently, Barken has one manager who oversees every management aspect in the shop and two staffs who take care of our customers. The plan is to expand our staff to accommodate more customers at the same time (Frynas, 2015). With the kind of the background Barken has, it is going to be possible to get efficient human resources from the neighborhood and hence enhance the chances of working towards our vision and mission Products and services Barkens primary products come in three products: Coffee products, coffee beverages, and pastries. We intended to make coffee beverages our main seller and sold in three types of cups that differ in sizes. We also alternatively offer coffee products like French presses and grinders for those on the lookout for a match regarding home quality Customers The shop targets consumers like coffee-holic, lovers of music, the young professionals, and business personnel are that work around the areas of Michigan. We intend to have longer ours of operations to widen our already existing customer base. Technically, we intend to use social media platforms of our guest musicians so as to reach a wider audience base and hence increase customer retention abilities for the shop (Wheelen Hunger, 2017). Our competitive edge Our competitive edge as compared to other coffee houses includes the following: The current location of the shop can be considered one of the best outsources in the market. Subsequently, this is because it is in the heart of the central business district in Michigan. We provide significantly unique and better-tasting coffee The only coffee house that provides regular weekend evening music entertainment We also intend to expand our products to accommodate a wider variety of favorite drinks. Our plan for an internet website in the next two years will enable us to include sales of products such as coffee beans, and other items like tea, gift items and gift baskets. Marketing strategy The majority of our competitors rely on entire word of mouth marketing strategy to generate business (Tovstiga, 2015). As for Barkens we intend to engage in an ongoing aggressive marketing program aimed at establish profitability as quick as possible hence enabling continued growth for the shop. Our central strategy aims to position Barken as the Lexus of coffeehouses, with a purpose of offering high-quality products as well as superb service in our superior environment (Zikmund et al., 2013). Launch Marketing Plan We intend to promote awareness, organize for direct traffic and enhence our brand image through the use of several techniques: Direct mail to customers Local print and broadcast media Public relations Design as well as packaging Enhanced Community involvement Superiority in terms of location Financial Forecast Barkens business model projects that the shop can hopefully generate over a maximum of $250 000 in revenue in the very first year of operation and at a gross margin of 60%. We are hopeful that we will surpass the break point and became lucrative near the end of the first trimester of our second year in operation. One page reflection on the Impact of the used strategies on the environment and society and how to mitigate the negative impacts One thing is for sure, the strategies employed by Barken to make it a giant coffee house mitigates some positive contributions to the society in general as well as the environment. Take for example our plan to make ourselves an integral part of the local as well as the world community (Babin Zikmund, 2015). Consequently, this will generate good will, live up to our mission statement and create the opportunity to forge important contracts with key people. Some of the community involvement goals that are likely to make an impact include: Sponsor local sport teams Offer support Fair Trade, Organic and sustainable farming Participate actively in the chamber of commerce Purchase fair trade coffee during necessary times Provide corresponding products to local charities in terms of fund raising. However, some challenges can be credited to the strategic plans enacted by the coffee shop. An example of such negative impacts include environmental pollution. Technically, this aspect may be in form of excess waste products being mishandled within the environs of the coffee shop. In relation, this is how we plan to surpass such challenges and possibly find long lasting solutions for them. We have ways through which we plan to mitigate the problem of environmental protection as well as safety (Asaba Lieberman, 2017). Consequently, we plan to advocate for purchasing supplies in bulk form, work with our suppliers to reuse crates as well as pallets and make purchases of reusable napkins, utensils and place settings. In terms of society enhancement, we plan to instill the values of integrity, passion, success, citizenship, Quality, brand, guests satisfaction and respect to enable us to operate with sensitivity and dignity to prevent compromising situations for both our customers (Carva lho, Paiva Vieira, 2016). In the Mind of Psychopaths Essay Example
In the Mind of Psychopaths Essay Ravina Patel 1136613 General Psychology assignment- Wider awareness Pondering on psychopathic traits Aided by brain scans (MRI), scientists have found that psychopaths have significant brain impairments, which are decreased amount of grey matter in the brain responsible for processing empathy, moral reasoning and guilt that clearly affect their ability to feel emotions, and to react to other peopleââ¬â¢s distress. Also, other studies have linked the amygdala with psychopathic traits as this area is related to aggressive behavior. Abnormalities in other parts of the brain such as the orbitofrontal cortex have also been correlated to psychopathy, as this area is responsible for lying, irresponsibility, and lack of emotion. Brain scans have also shown that psychopaths (with mean, aggressive, rude attitude) have more activity in the part of the brain related to the expectation of rewards. Other than physical brain abnormalities, genes could also be playing a role on psychopathic behavior (monster-like behavior such as merciless killing, torturing, cannibalism, etc. . Psychopaths can also be considered as ââ¬Å"natural born predatorsâ⬠as they tend to sense emotions such as fear accurately. Apart from biology, social upbringing can also be playing a role in psychopathââ¬â¢s lives. In fact, violent upbringing can contribute to psychopathic traits. However, psychopathic traits cannot be explained with simply one factor or another; it is a combination of biological traits, social traits, personal psychology and biochemical traits that are combined to explain psychopathic behavior. One important distinction to make is that psychopaths are not necessarily murderous creatures. In fact, many of them may not even be criminals. However, people with lack of emotions, feelings, remorse or concern for otherââ¬â¢s well being do tend to contribute to destroyed lives. Antisocial personality disorder (psychopath) is defined as ââ¬Å"behavior outside any ethical and legal standard of societyâ⬠(376). As stated in the article, the textbook confirms that the amygdala plays a key role in emotion, especially when it comes to fear and aggression (57,315). In accordance with the article, the textbookââ¬â¢s authors also state that psychopaths feel little distress for others and they see no wrong in their cruel behaviors toward others (376). From Kohlbergââ¬â¢s stages of moral development, morality in the first stages (childhood stages) is based on rewards, punishments and exchange of favors. On the conventional level, morality is based on the adherence of social rules and norms. Lastly, in the postcoventional level, individuals do the difference between what is right and what is wrong, and define morality in terms of social principles (274,275). Psychopaths do not seem to follow this path at all since their judgments are impaired with other brain abnormalities. In agreement with the article, psychopaths are not always criminals. Some may be politicians or even business people. Their impulsive behavior and lack of conscience harm people surrounding them (377). Unlike sane people, psychopaths ââ¬Å"have abnormal low activity in the brain during stress periodsâ⬠(they do not feel the pressure to perform well or whatsoever) and they have less grey matter in their frontal lobes (responsible for emotion, reasoning, and problem solving (377). In agreement with both the article and the textbook, lack of grey matter in the frontal lobe can also explain psychopathââ¬â¢s manipulative behaviors and impulsive acts. As stated in the article, the nurture environment plays a role in antisocial personality disorder. Abusive upbringing, anything from emotional deprivation to wrong disciplinary rules affects psychopaths (377). They also have low sense of moral development. In fact, they do not have a sharp sense of what is right and what is wrong (276). Killing and causing harm to others may not be considered ââ¬Å"badâ⬠from psychopathsââ¬â¢ judgment. Other people may be just perceived as mere objects of pleasure, or torture. The textbook and the articles basically state the same concepts of brain abnormalities to explain psychopathic behaviors. The amygdala, along with other regions of the brain can explain some cruel behaviors. Similarly, during the early stage of development of the child, some trauma such as violent upbringing can also accentuate violent behavior in the future. I found this article particularly interesting because psychopathic behaviors are not always subject to a lot of discussions. Psychopaths are hidden in society and we tend to live with them, not knowing how they can (or canââ¬â¢t) ruin our lives. Maybe someone close to us may present traits of a psychopath, but we ignore or deny it. I am almost fascinated by their relationship with the rest of humanity. I probably wont ever get over the fact that psychopaths are capable of doing inhuman acts and not find anything wrong to it (such as cannibalism). I used to think that psychopaths had completely different social behaviors, which made them very distinct from other people. Now I know that it is not the case. I canââ¬â¢t tell if someone close-minded, incapable of loving, insincere, impulsive, egocentric and harsh is dangerous or not. At some point, this feeling causes insecurity in its own environment.

Editorial on Obesity Essays
Editorial on Obesity Essays Editorial on Obesity Essay Editorial on Obesity Essay Essay Topic: Editorial Who could have thought that America, one of the greatest superpowers of the world would face its downfall not to another countryââ¬â¢s invasion, or a nuclear meltdown of some sorts? Instead we are facing casualties at the hand of terrorist known as Ronald McDonald. Obesity is running rampant in our once fine country, more so than the citizens themselves; and perhaps the worst factor about this epidemic is not the fact that we are losing more and more to obesity, but the fact that we know full and well what is killing our country, and yet we do nothing to prevent further fatassery. Obesity is getting so out of control that it appears that handicap parking spots and electric scooters are beginning to look like the latest fashion trend for hambeasts rather than reserved for the legitimately disabled. The worst part about it is that those blowing up like Macyââ¬â¢s Thanksgiving Parade balloons refuse to accept that it is their own fault and not those flipping the burgers. Countless lawsuits have been filed by blubbering beached whales against fast food chains because there is no surgeon generalââ¬â¢s warning that food made exclusively out of grease will make you look like Rosie Oââ¬â¢ Donnell. However, is the restaurant chain truly to blame? They most certainly cannot, or else Ronald McDonaldââ¬â¢s best friend grimace would have sued the corporation a long time ago for making him such a lard ass. The restaurant chainââ¬â¢s motive, like any corporation, is to make money; and as long as there are hambeasts throwing their money at them, they will welcome it with open arms. Perhaps a restaurant cashier should act in the same way a bartender does when they believe that a patron has had too much to drink in order to prevent the customer from lodging French fries in their arteries? Despite the fact there are no addicting ingredients added to these foods; several thousands of pitiful, pathetic souls have claimed to be ââ¬Å"addictedâ⬠to the greasy morsels. As a business tactic, McDonalds should consider selling hypodermic needles filled to capacity with fryer grease, or selling some sort of greasy fast-food version of the nicotine patch, providing a new way for the hambeasts to overdose on fat. The true root of the entire issue really just boils down to the exploitative nature of us as people. When we find something that works for us, or something that we enjoy a great deal, we tend to go a bit overboard; and even when it begins to show adverse effects, we put off looking for a solution until itââ¬â¢s too late (sound familiar, oil tycoons? ). However, this ââ¬Å"human natureâ⬠of ours is not entirely evident in those of us who have the amazing ability to put down a fork. Perhaps this is just another example of Darwinââ¬â¢s theory of ââ¬Å"Survival of the Fittestâ⬠, and those who are too weak to say no to the side of fries will eventually be weeded out by cardiovascular disease.

Accuracy and Precision. Importance of Scientific Measurements in Essay
Accuracy and Precision. Importance of Scientific Measurements in Ranges - Essay Example Lastly; it can as well be defined as the degree of the proximity of the values under measurement. Precision on the other hand shows how close the two or more values under measurements are. The two terms are different in that one may be accurate but imprecise on the other hand one can as well be precise but not accurate. Measurements versus Accuracy The fact that accuracy and precision are two independent entities makes a value termed as precise to be either true or false depending on the accuracy of the measurement scale. Therefore it is false to that a measurement of high precision must exhibit high accuracy. Statistical Error and Systematic Error Statics error is that which arises as a result of biasness that is caused by the random fluctuations in statics which can be controlled or reduced by accuracy. On the other hand, systematic error is the error that results from the introduction of the biasness that results to systematic which is difficult to be eliminated. Two errors differ in the following way; first, while systematic errors arise because of the random fluctuations the statistical results from the experienced biasness. Systematic error is due to the introduced bias while the statistical is due to the random fluctuation. The elimination of systematic error is impossible while the latter is possible. Lastly, systematic error arises from the system while the statistics error is from the statics.

Dq -5-Terence - Essay Example The discussion below elaborates and helps in understanding various aspects of research. Research questions that address a problem are concerned with quantitative research. In this case, the questions give an exact description of a phenomenon. Since it has to answer a question, control is exercised in order to eliminate any form of bias that may arise during the research. In most cases, the information under this kind of research relies on cross-functional approaches and the data reduced to numerical codes for easy analysis. On the contrary, questions that might be used in an interview heavily rely on qualitative research. This indicates that the information under such a research does not require discrete numerical data but only seeks for explanations about a phenomenon. However, since researchers determine what is asked, there is a likelihood of biasness because they decide how to fit the questions in a situation. These questions employ verbal, and in other cases, use pictorial descriptions for effective understanding and analysis. According to Palinkas et al. (2013), both qualitative and quantitative research methods have a trace of bias. It is extremely difficult to eliminate bias in research. Using the methods concurrently helps researchers to cub bias since both methods can be used in checking each other. They actually complement each other. By In terms of data preparation, both methods, in a unique way require the use of verbal descriptions. They are a great pillar in understanding in research. Researchers are increasingly finding it difficult using the methods independently because they are intertwined together and just separated by a thin line. An effective combination provides quality research findings that address the problem and offer solutions in a logical and acceptable manner. Questions that address a problem are objective in nature because they have
